Sound insulation
The sound insulation rating of a building element or component is determined by means of a measurement on a test bench. The test specimens are usually installed with ideal high-sound-insulating joints in accordance with the relevant standards so that the sound transmission via the building element can be determined without any accompanying ancillary works.
Testing
The measurements are carried out in test benches with suppressed flanking transmission, which are completely decoupled from each other. The average sound pressure level in the transmitter room and the average sound pressure level in the receiver room are measured and evaluated using the tenfold decimal logarithm, depending on the test surface/test opening to the equivalent sound absorption area in the receiver room.
The test results are given as single figures with additional evaluation by the spectrum adjustment values C (e.g. residential activities) and Ctr (e.g. traffic noise) as follows:
- Airborne sound insulation
Rw (C; Ctr) (dB) rated sound insulation measure
- Longitudinal sound insulation
Dn,f,w (C; Ctr) (dB) rated standard flanking sound level difference
A total of 4 test benches are available for measuring airborne sound insulation and 1 façade test bench for measuring airborne and flanking sound insulation.
In addition to testing in standard-compliant test benches, we also offer on-site building acoustics testing at the construction site upon request.

Minimum requirements in Germany:
The national DIN 4109 series of standards regulates the minimum requirements for certain building components, e.g. walls, ceilings and doors, which must be met depending on the structural situation. Due to the scope and the different specifications, we recommend contacting the testing centre.
