Load capacity of safety devices
The specifications according to DIN EN 14351-1:2016-12 apply to safety devices (e.g. fastening devices and safety catches, locking devices and fastening devices for cleaning purposes).
Test
If there is a sash on the window/external door that can be opened, such as a fanlight with an additional safety device such as a catching stay, hold-open device, fastening device for cleaning purposes, etc., the sash must be loaded with 350 N for one minute according to EN 14351-1, para. 4.8.
In Germany, there is no general building regulation regarding this feature, but in order to ensure safe cleaning of the glass on the outside, tilt sashes should be able to be fixed at an opening angle of 65°.
Note
In the PfB’s view, turn-tilt fittings do not fall under the safety devices, but are a component of the window fitting and are taken into account when testing it (see e.g. for turn-tilt fittings DIN EN 13126-8, para. 7.3.5 “Test with additional load of 1000 N”).
According to DIN EN 13126-1:2012-02 Building hardware – Hardware for windows and french doors – Requirements and test methods – Part 1 Common requirements for all types of hardware, section 6.4, the test samples must simulate the profile and material for which the hardware is intended. The test report must indicate e.g. wood quality and type and size of screws used.
